What is an expert advisor ?
An expert advisor is a "plugin" trading system that you install onto your Metatrader trading software. The installation is trivial, and usually consists of uploading the expert systems files into a folder on your PC, restarting Metatrader, and activating the expert advisor that you have just installed.
The trading system has a set of "rules" programmed into it (usually using a combination of indicators), and generates buy and sell signals at appropriate times. Some of them even have audio warnings, and will "speak" through your PC speakers when the buy or sell signal hits.
Who uses an expert advisor ?
This is a tough question to answer. Mostly it is new traders who are still trying to make sense of all the information provided in a currency chart.
A pre-programmed trading system offers a hard and fast set of rules for generating the buy and sell signals, in a very structured manner. They take all of the emotion out of the trade, which ultimately is one of your goals as a currency trader.
Can they make losing trades ?
Of course they will. There is no system in the world that will make only winning trades (and if somebody had one you can be sure they would not be selling it). However, your goal as a currency trader is to make money, and the way to do this is to make sure that the sum of your winning trades is greater than the sum of your losing trades. That's your only goal.
